HOK Sport was part of the Singapore Gold Sports Hub consortia shortlisted for the redevelopment of the Singapore National Stadium and the surrounding area into a fully integrated sports, entertainment and lifestyle hub, in a project lead by the Singapore Sports Council. The site enjoyed an attractive waterfront location and the design focused on delivering the world’s first waterfront, open ended stadium, with a retractable roof, to Singapore.

The retractable roof and moving end wall were designed to create the largest window possible to Singapore’s city skyline and will provide unparallel viewing experience for such events as the National Day Parade flyover. The unique horse-shoe shaped Stadium also was designed to specifically with Singapore’s tropical climate in mind. The Stadium is complemented by the creation of Sports Quay – the new hub of sport and recreation which will create a total waterfront promenade of 2.6 kilometers lined with retail, food and beverage outlets, outdoor plazas, jetties and landscaped gardens.
